Michael Godard
Michael Godard is a more recent artist, he was born October 3, 1960 in Southern California.  Ever since he was a little boy he aspired to be a painter, and he attended the University of Nevada in Las Vegas and The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.  He had a variety of jobs before fine art official became his career.  He is very well known for his paintings involving olive men, and the vibrant colors he uses in his work.  Michael thought of this idea after months of being in a hospital because his daughter was battling brain cancer.
What's very unique about his work is his flamboyant subject matters depicted in his work.  Godard's work is highly collected by movie stars, rock stars, and private collectors.  His paintings grab the attention of a lot of younger people as well.  Michael is known as the "Rock Star of the Art World".  With the themes of his paintings revolving life style in Las Vegas.
The biggest characteristic in his paintings is the subject matter of olives.  He also has olive's smoking or playing cards, grapes chasing flies, and strawberries dancing.  He is often criticized for his work in the art community, but he likes having that role.  Another characteristic that he has is the use of vibrant colors on a black background.  His colors really pop out to the viewer, and it's very unique.  He also gives human characteristics to nonhuman characters such as olives, strawberries, dice, grapes, etc.  That is what makes Michael's work very unique, and it brings curiosity to the viewer.
Michael is his own man, and doesn't really belong to a certain movement of art. He is a self made by not coming from a lot, to now where he is world renowned.  His main inspiration was his daughter, and through that he is now a very famous and prosperous artist.
